Appeal
A request to a higher court to look again at a decision made by a lower court.
Definition
An appeal is a formal request to a senior court to review a decision made by a lower court. In most systems appeals are limited to errors of law or procedure — the higher court does not hear all the evidence again. A right of appeal usually has a strict time limit from the date of the original decision.
In practice
Note the deadline for appealing — it is usually 21 or 28 days from the judgment. Missing it can permanently bar you from challenging the decision.
