Regulation
A detailed rule made by a government body under the authority of a statute.
Definition
Regulations (also called statutory instruments in the UK) are secondary legislation made by a minister or government body under powers granted by a primary statute. They set the detailed rules that the statute does not spell out. Regulations can be changed more quickly than an Act of Parliament but must stay within the authority the enabling statute grants.
